Waking up to our first full day in Darwin, enjoy breakfast before we start our local sightseeing. We will uncover the stories of Darwin’s past with a local guide, discovering the role Darwin played during World War II. We’ll find that the city still contains many of its remaining historic buildings such as the Old Court House and Government House that sit alongside the newly constructed Parliament House. Afterwards we’ll have time at leisure* to soak up the balmy weather with free time. You may like to visit one of the many Aboriginal art galleries, museums or enjoy some retail therapy. Your tour host will be on hand with further suggestions.

After breakfast this morning, check out and board the coach as we head to the beautiful Litchfield National Park. With untouched rainforests, stunning waterfalls, swimming holes and magnificent scenery, Litchfield has gained the reputation as the jewel of the Northern Territory’s crown. There are some great photo opportunities as we stop to see the magnetic anthills and see the cascading Florence Falls. For anyone looking for a swim – take a dip in the Wangi Falls plunge pool. This afternoon we travel to Nitmiluk for a jaw dropping Gorge Cruise. Be transported to the spiritual world of the Jawoyn culture and history as we witness the magnificent gorge backdrop from our boat. Taking us to the end of the first gorge, experience the beauty of large boulders, rock pools and sands that make up the crossover to the second gorge. After an incredible day, we continue to Katherine for our overnight stay.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Stay: Knotts Crossing Resort or similar
Departing this morning after breakfast we leave Katherine and travel to Victoria River Crossing and Timber Creek at the northern edge of the Gregory National Park. We then cross the border into Western Australia. A highlight today will be our cruise from Lake Argyle, a Kimberley treasure, to Kununurra. Marvel at the spectacular scenery and abundance of Australian native wildlife in their natural habitat. Take in the untamed landscape of the lesser known but equally incredible Carr Boyd Ranges. We arrive in Kununurra, established as the residential and administrative centre of the Ord River Scheme – a huge irrigation system that was developed in the 1970s. After checking into our hotel there will be time to freshen up before we meet for dinner.

With the group back together, we take a tour of the town which will include Diversion Dam, Kellys Knob and Ivanhoe Crossing. Their significance will be unfolded as the day pans out. At Danggu Geikie Gorge, take in the panoramic views and learn about the stunning geological features, wildlife and cultural significance of the gorge on a relaxing cruise. It’s been carved over millions of years by the mighty Fitzroy River, through part of an ancient limestone barrier reef which snakes across the west Kimberley. Once we’ve had breakfast and checked out, our destination today is Broome. In the early days it was used as an overnight prison before their final trek into Derby. Here we can also have our photo taken in front of the water trough that locals claim to be the biggest in the southern hemisphere!
